Started climbing two years ago at Fit Rocks in Moncton then moved to Fredericton and started climbing and volunteering as a monitor at UNB. 3. What do you love about climbing at UNB? I love the variety in root setting, the people that climb there and all of the events that UNB host’s outside. 4. What is a random or fun fact about yourself? I sometimes use my nose to scratch my lip because I am too lazy to use my hand.

Next we have... Alexander Neville 1. What is your position on the exec?... VP External 2. When did you start climbing? Climbing regularly for four years. Not sure when I first started, maybe two years before that? 3. What do you love about climbing at UNB? I love the community at UNB. I learned so much when starting out because of the helpful and friendly members of the Rock and Ice community. (Especially Ken) 4. What is a random or fun fact about yourself? Lived in Berlin for a year and am a supporter of the Berlin soccer club Hertha BSC.

Up next... Lucas Jourdain 1. What is your position on the exec?... I'm the Vice-President Internal. 2. When did you start climbing? I first tried climbing 3 years ago here at UNB, but didn't give it a second try until another year and a half later. Since then, I try to do bouldering indoors or outdoors whenever possible. 3. What do you love about climbing at UNB? The community is what I love most about climbing at UNB. It is probably one of the most important things that has kept me climbing the last one and a half years. No matter your background or skill level, it seems like everybody will cheer you on or gladly give you advice. As a major introvert who prefers to keep to myself, I can honestly say very few places have made me feel as welcome and comfortable as UNB Rock and Ice. 4. What is a random or fun fact about yourself? I've taught myself how to lucid dream, so about once a week, I'll realize I'm dreaming and can control my dreams or do things like fly and explore other planets.

Hi all, last week at our AGM we elected a new exec. Since the club is not open for you to get to know them, we have decided to introduce our new exec members one by one on FB (in no particular order). First up... Jon Lewis 1. What is your position on the exec?... My position on the exec is Secretary. 2. When did you start climbing? I've been climbing since June 2019, but I really picked it up seriously just last fall! 3. What do you love about climbing at UNB? My favourite parts of climbing at UNB are seeing the progress of fellow climbers on challenging routes, and the development of new routes as we go. It's interesting seeing the different betas setters have, as opposed to their friends trying to experiment new ways to do the same route. 4. What is a random or fun fact about yourself? I'm a huge fan of puzzles, especially cast metal ones. I think that's one of the reasons I like climbing - it's like a puzzle you solve by moving your body... and falling - a lot.

As you may know the current executive chose to delay our April AGM and elections due to COVID-19. We have decided to hold the AGM online on September 15th at 7:00 p.m (meeting link can be found at the end of this message). During the call the current executive will provide an update with regard to the gym reopening plan, extending memberships, and general club financials. We will also have the elections for the 2020/2021 executive. There are a total of 5 positions on the ...UNBRI executive they are: President, VP-Internal, VP-External, Treasurer, and Secretary. The current executive is not planning on running again so we need members of our amazing community to step up and fill all five positions. UNB/URec has announced a phased reopening plan. The good news is that phase 1 begins on Tuesday, August 4th. The bad news is sports clubs are not due to open until phase 3 which currently doesn't have a date. We will keep this page updated as dates for phase 2 and 3 get announced. As many of our members are aware the UNB Rock and Ice AGM is usually held at the beginning of April. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the current executive has decided to postpone the election until September 16th, 2020. As our membership primarily consists of students, some of whom do not spend their summer in Fredericton, we feel that this new date gives any member who is interested in running for a position on the executive a chance to do so. More details, including positions and descriptions, will be posted closer to September. As always please reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Hey everyone! I created a survey to try and get an idea of what people think about the spray wall! We'd only had it up for less than a month when we had to close but a lot of people had a chance to try it and we just wanted some feedback to get a sense of what people think about it. The gym will be closed until further notice. UNB Rock and Ice has just received word from the university that all sport club activity on campus will be suspended indefinitely. We will continue to monitor the situation and consult with the university with the hope of re-opening as soon as possible.

UNB has made the decision to cancel all in person classes for the remainder of the academic year. Read more here: https://www.unb.ca/coronavirus/ We have reached out to the university and are waiting for a recommendation as to whether we should remained open or not. For now we will be airing on the side of caution and closing the gym until a recommendation is made. Please stay tuned for further updates.

You may notice a few more holds than normal on the wave the next time you come into climb. With the help of some members it has been turned into a spay wall. A spray wall allows you to make up your own routes using the holds on the wall. From now until the end of the month there may be some minor changes to the wall (ie changing hold angles or adding feet) but at the end of the month we will stop changing things and create a binder where routes can be recorded, named, and ...graded. This will allow for hundreds of routes in a wide range of grades on the wave. We hope this proves to be a popular idea with our membership and we encourage everyone to share the wall, wait their turn, and allow everyone to get an opportunity to use it.
