All good research borrows from other sources and your research paper shouldn’t be an exception. In this video, the University of Winnipeg Library will show you the basic principles of citing and referencing sources, so you can be sure you’re doing honest work!
Are you a student or recent graduate who’s interested in working with Statistics Canada? A new educational tool will be tested by hundreds of Manitoba families this winter. The ToyBox project, created by UWinnipeg’s Sheri-Lynn Skwarchuk, is an at-home tool that provides families with numeracy, literacy, and wellness tips to share with their children. This is a project to help meet the needs of our community, Skwarchuk said. These are tips that you can take with your own resources, during your own time, and use them in the best way that you feel will be helpful for your children.
While the fashion and hairstyles have changed, many things about the University of Winnipeg Library remain the same! Taken in 1975, this photo shows the circulation desk we all know and love. #ThrowbackThursday : The University of Winnipeg Archives
Help a family celebrate the holiday season! As part of their annual Holiday Dinner, Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre has launched a Virtual Toy Drive. You can make a monetary donation online or drop off toys at the toy box next to the security office on campus. As a team, we are happy we are able to play a role in the helping community stay connected through our programs and also support them by coordinating efforts for this meal to be shared amongst families. Hopefully we are helping to also reduce the stress around the holidays that some families might experience, said Angeline Nelson, Director of Community Learning and Engagement. In total, 200 turkey dinners, prepared and packaged by Diversity Food Services, will be delivered by the Wii Chiiwaakanak team, members of Les Marmiton, and wonderful volunteer drivers.

The University of Winnipeg Library moved locations on campus many times before finding its permanent home at Centennial Hall in the ‘70s. Taken in 1932, this photo shows the library in Wesley College just two years before it moved into the two-storey brick expansion behind Wesley Hall. #ThrowbackThursday : UWinnipeg Archives

A virtual performance telling the story of an unlikely friendship made during a time of isolation opens the Department of Theatre and Film’s 2020/21 season. Created entirely online by Acting IV Honour students Jordan Bourquin and Ayla Hamilton, ‘Time Within the Window’ explores how two people navigate new relationships as the world around them pauses in a state of uncertainty. The performance runs Tuesday, December 1 to Saturday, December 5, starting at 7:30 pm each evening.
UWinnipeg alumna Taylor Wilson has published a research paper looking into the decolonization of Canada’s Food Guide. The project, which was developed with Dr. Shailesh Shukla during her master’s studies, was in response to the latest guide launched in 2019 that promised to be inclusive of multicultural diets and diverse perspectives on food, including the food systems of Indigenous communities. Our research supports Indigenous-led and community-based resurgence and decolonization of food guides, she said. We propose to design and pilot-test a personalized Indigenous food guide in the Fisher River Cree Nation, as a community-based case study to demonstrate its impact.
Yams, walks, and socks. These are just a few of Molly’s favourite things. This beautiful six-year-old shepherd mix was a rescue from the Winnipeg Humane Society via Stacy Fosters Dogs. If Molly had one superpower, it would be turning everyday objects into socks and then liberating them, one pair at a time, from their fate with human feet. Yes, she loves socks that much! #TeachersPetTuesday Asked what she thinks of her human, Molly said: I think I’ve been adopted by a nerd, but that’s fine. : Dr. Angela Failler (Women’s and Gender Studies) and Molly

Once again, UWinnipeg is home to the most sustainable campus meals in North America and beyond. Thanks to Diversity Food Services' commitment to cultural, social, environmental, and economic sustainability, the University has topped AASHE's 2020 Sustainable Campus Index in food and dining, surpassing 500-plus other institutions from 14 countries. We find our vendors by being active in the community, visiting farmers' markets, through local conferences, and other business connections, said COO Ian Vickers. We’ve been operating at UWinnipeg for 11 years now. In that time, we’ve developed deep community roots that allow us to know what's happening in and around the Winnipeg food production market.
