Thinking back on some of the great community flyovers we were able to do in 2020. Who saw us over their house last year? These houses in Cambridge sure had a great view!

2021 is starting off strong in the hangar with our Harvard’s annual inspection! We gave her a final run-up this weekend and the annual will continue this week. Hopefully this means we’ll be able to take to the skies this winter once restrictions are lifted! #mondaymaintenance

As we look back on 2020, we're grateful for all the great experiences we've been able to have despite a challenging year. We're especially grateful for all the opportunities we've had to share what we love with you all from the skies. Sharing what we love with our entire community requires the hard work of our whole team in the air, on the ramp, and behind the scenes. If you caught our Remembrance Day flyovers either in person or virtually, you may have seen our Media Coordinator, Steve! Steve helps share the history of our jets and the mission of our team with our community on TV, radio, and livestreams on our social media platforms. Who here saw Steve during this CTV Kitchener interview last week?

One of the things we love most is getting to share our jets with our community on special occasions. If you saw us yesterday and are interested in learning more about exactly what goes into a formation flyover, check out our website (https://waterloowarbirds.com//anatomy-of-a-formation-flight) for a blog post detailing all the planning and hard work that goes into executing these special flights! While you’re there, take a tour around our new website, pick up some merch to represent your favourite jet on the ground, or consider joining our Ally Program to support the team year-round. As an entirely volunteer-run organization, the proceeds from all sales go right back into our aircraft to help keep history flying for years to come.

We’re grateful to have been able to honour Canada’s veterans and service members from the air yesterday morning with flights over cenotaphs and cemeteries around Waterloo Region and Guelph. We also had the honour of being piped out on takeoff by our new friend Trent, making these flights even more special. Thank you to everyone who came out to see us fly, either in person or online, and thank you again to all the past and present service members who have dedicated their lives to our country.

Head on over to our website to meet Derek, our President, Director of Flight Operations, and pilot of our T-33, Vampire, and L29. The founder of our team, Derek has been involved in getting our historic aircraft in the air since day one. He sat down with us to share some background on how Waterloo Warbirds came to be, some of his most memorable aviation experiences, and offer advice to aspiring aviators: https://waterloowarbirds.com/blogs/blog-posts/meet-derek

This Remembrance Day on Wednesday, November 11th, we will be honouring those who have served and continue to serve Canada in the military with flyovers over cenotaphs and cemeteries in Waterloo Region and Guelph. Honour Flight 1 will consist of our T-33, MiG-15, and L-29 flying over cenotaphs in the Region of Waterloo and Guelph. Honour Flight 2 will be conducted by our Harvard Mk IIb with flights over cemeteries in Waterloo, Kitchener, Galt, and Guelph. We will be in the air... starting at 10:40 a.m. for Honour Flight 1 and 10:30 a.m. for Honour Flight 2. Please note the route maps displayed show the specific cenotaphs and cemeteries our aircraft will be flying over. The route between each point may vary. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the public are asked not to come to the Region of Waterloo International Airport to observe these flights. We encourage you to watch from public locations near the cenotaphs shown while respecting all municipal and Public Health guidelines for social distancing. Maintenance isn’t always big, exciting projects like engine removal. Sometimes it’s the little details! One of our maintenance activities this week was reconditioning the boots that surround our Vampire’s sticks. Here you can see the before, during, and after images. From inside to out, our Vampire sure is looking good!

As always, be sure to keep an eye on this page for updates on our flights so you can see some of the skills we learned during the clinic for yourself!

This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. From July-October 1940, the battle saw a small group of fighter pilots from around the world pitted against the larger Luftwaffe in what would become the only battle of the Second World War fought entirely in the air. The Allied fighters included over 100 Canadian pilots and approximately 300 Canadian ground crew. Today, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of all who contributed to this important Allied victory. Lest we forget. : Royal Canadian Air Force

Today on Military Family Appreciation Day, we’d like to thank the military families who keep their home forts running smoothly while their loved ones are protecting our country. We built our fort to recognize these families and show them how much they are appreciated. We challenge our friends at Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association, Canadian Historical Aircraft Association, and Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum to join us! Learn more about Military Family Appreciation Day at Together We Stand Foundation or on their website: www.twsfoundation.ca/operations #HomeFortChallenge #MFAD

Here’s a sight you don’t see every day: UNDER the seats of our Vampire! Among the many interesting components you get a glimpse of here that will soon be covered by her re-installed seats, you can also see her good-looking floor pans, which we took the chance to repaint while they were removed. This jet is going to be sparkling inside and out the next time she’s in the air!

Waterloo Warbirds 17.07.2020

Our Vampire is continuing along on her journey to a new panel. With the appropriate instrument holes cut and the panel sized, powder coating comes next before we finally get to install it! It’s been a long journey but we can’t wait to see our Vampire back in the air again with her new updates!

We started our Sunday off right this morning with a great flight over Waterloo Region in our T-33 Mako Shark. If you’re interested in joining us next time from the passenger seat of one of our vintage aircraft, head over to our website to book your flight! We can guarantee there’s no better way to start a day.

Waterloo Warbirds 17.06.2020

Social media manager Krystin isn't afraid to get her hands dirty! The team is hard at work cleaning the Mako and doing other maintenance tasks today.
