I’ve had many people ask me about the short videos I produce for White Pine Realty that I share through our Facebook page. I just finished producing this one yesterday. I started creating them back in 2018, the year we launched the Brokerage. We are all bombarded with social media posts on our Facebook pages and it’s created online Attention Deficit Disorder for the majority of us and I will admit that I’m one of them :). There are wonderful real estate themed videos produced... each and every day by talented professionals and I felt I was not one of them. I was a new entrepreneur (along with my business partner Bryan) and I had to wear many hats (and continue to do so). There certainly wasn’t tonnes of ad budget to go and hire a fabulous media company to do my social media bidding. So, I spent hours and hours online, usually late at night after all my client business was done to see what others in my professional sphere were doing. And they certainly were doing lovely and creative things for real estate. For those who own their own company, I think you can appreciate how often you are told that you have to be creative and different to stand out in a saturated market. I sat back and tried to strip down what drew me to click various posts to watch their videos. And what I started to realize was that the videos I was consuming in my private time to unwind were funny, light-hearted videos or videos that I simply found to be beautiful, nostalgic or poetic. Of course, that was what attracted me, but that’s not to say that is what attracts the majority of the on-line population. I did take note of what my friends and clients were watching and sharing and I found the same recurring themes. It’s not to say that educational and informing videos aren’t relevant because they are, but people consume them because there is a real purpose to taking the time to do so like watching a 2 + minute property tour video, for example. That takes concentration and patience to watch. People who are doing that are doing it for educational purposes because they are actively looking and trying to educate themselves on a potential property that has caught their eye. But, what are they doing before and after that point in time? Looking at funny, light-hearted or beautifully inspiring videos. IT’S YOUR SEASON #lovewhereyoulive

I was recently asked if I enjoy what I do. I think all of us, in all our wonderful, stressful, hectic, sometimes self-questioning life endeavours, find ourselves having to answer that question - whether to others or to ourselves. My path into real estate was not straight by any stretch of the imagination. I come from a long, long line of farmers. I am the 6 generation on our family farm, outside Brantford, Ontario. I grew up on the farm, learned the value of hard work at an ...early age, as well as creativity, empathy and self-sufficiency. I spent many, many hours with my father traveling the backroads visiting other farms as he pursued a long, successful career in farm real estate. We cash cropped our home farm and several others that we owned and I developed a love/hate relationship with cows as we also ran a dairy operation (it was mutual I think, especially when I tried to put a western saddle on one, as I didn't get a horse for my ninth birthday from Santa :)). I am still actively involved in cash cropping and feel blessed that I can continue to play a role in the soul inspiring beauty of our agricultural landscapes in Ontario. That work ethic and independence underpinned studying and working abroad in England and Switzerland, as well as in Toronto in the financial sector. I eventually found myself returning to where I grew up and I brought with me all the life skills and knowledge I had collected. I'm a nerd at heart - I love learning and I love problem solving and I am no stranger to rolling up my sleeves, even if that requires crawling around old basements, out-buildings, etc. I find it especially fulfilling when I can bring my knowledge and experience to those around me in helping them move forward in their respective lives. My real estate career is, selfishly, an outlet for me to help others, whether it is discussing the legal / financial aspects of deals, the structural merits of a property and all the personal moments in between that I spend getting to know my clients who continue to enrich my life in so many ways. I have and will continue to bring all I have to offer to my clients, whether it is in Brant County and surrounding areas, or the beautiful Kawarthas where I spend a considerable amount of time as a local native. My continued success is only as good as the success of my clients and there is never an ask that is too small for me to lend my experience, empathy and transparency to. Our lives have and will never be static. 2020 has served to remind us of that. It has especially brought home how important it is for all of us to pool all of our skills and experiences and work together as we navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead. It could be argued that not since the creation of 1950's suburbia has there been such a focus on moving to less-populated regions.
