Back in August my boyfriend treated me to a birthday meal at Mallard Cottage, and ordered the halibut for himself. Imagine our surprise when they served us the neck! What's the wildest thing you've ever eaten in a St. John's restaurant? -Angela

#MooseAlert! This is likely the same moose we caught on the #trailcamera at the beginning of summer. Look how he's grown! This moose is most likely in "rut", a period of behavior changes that occur in preparation for mating season. One common behavior is "bush thrashing" where bull moose thrash their antlers at trees (and cameras ) to alert other moose of their presence. Thanks Mark for the video!

#ThrowbackThursday to when we had a railroad running across the island of Newfoundland! For nearly 100 years, the railroad ferried people and goods from Port aux Basque to St. John's. Today, the old railroad bed forms the Newfoundland T'Railway, over 500 miles of recreational trails through some of Newfoundland's most scenic vistas! Check out the Railway Coastal Museum, housed in the original St. John's Train Station, to learn the full story!

Good luck to all participating in the Terry Fox Virtual Run 2020! In the spring of 1980, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope in St. John's, Newfoundland. His dream was to run across Canada, raising money and awareness for cancer research. To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $750 million for cancer research, with help from participants like you! In the words of Terry Fox, "Dreams are made if people try."

We enjoyed a great "Wellness Break" at Government House this afternoon! Government House was completed in 1831 following a Royal Charter declaring Newfoundland an official colony of Great Britain. Built for political and ceremonial reasons, the the House and Grounds have a rich story to tell. You can take a virtual tour of the House on their website, or head on down to the Grounds for free yoga, tai chi, and other wellness activities through the month of September!
