Critter care wildlife society has three volunteer programs, the internship, co-op and volunteer. Please ensure you have the correct one. https://www.crittercarewildlife.org/ a Co-op- is someone who dedicates 4 + days a week to assist with day to day tasks and animal care. ***co-ops are not required to live on site*** while a intern is. ... Learn the difference below between an internship and a co-op. https://www.crittercarewildlife.org/faq---co-op Critter Care Wildlife Society, cares for orphaned, injured, and sick wildlife mammals of B.C. We heavily rely on interns to help us hand raise and care for these animals before we release them back into the wild. Tasks include general animal care, bottle feeding, medicating (under supervision), cleaning, enriching, maintenance etc. It is an amazing opportunity for people wanting to work in the field of animal care/ zoo/ conservation as it allows them to gain valuable hand on experience. We provided food and accommodation for free for exchange in this amazing opportunity. Typically, we are inundated with interns from abroad, however since Covid 19 we have been struggling to get the help we need to do the essential work we provide. Please feel free to visit our website and apply. https://www.crittercarewildlife.org/co-op-application 481-216th Street, Langley, BC, Canada V2Z 1R6

Before Covid and all the travel restrictions we would typically train and inspire over 100+ interns from around the world each year. Since we are not government funded and operate off of donations and we try to maximize this program to help keep our operating costs down. This program is completely free and we provide free room and board for their help. We provide some of the best hands on training in the industry to set you up for success no matter what field you want to pursue. We want to shine the spotlight on these determined individuals because without them operating at the capacity we do would be next to impossible. You can find more intern testimonials on our website. . https://www.youtube.com/watch . #animals #volunteer #internship #wildlife #education #conservation

Throwback Thursday , do you remember Hoover? . HOOVER THE HAPPY CAT . Hoover is the perfect example of what can happen when man interferes with nature. Like all bobcats, Hoover was born to be wild. She was born to run, to learn to hunt for her own food, to grow and mate with her own kind and, in time to have young of her own.... . We do not know how or why she came to be captured but we do know that some well-meaning person decided she was too cute and cuddly and would make a nice pet. For the first very impressionable few weeks of her life, she was treated as a domestic cat, given the wrong food, and allowed to sleep with her new owner. After a month or so, her ‘owner’ discovered that it is illegal in BC to keep a wild animal in captivity and that her new kitten was not doing so well! Hoover needed help and she needed it fast. . She arrived at Critter Care barely six weeks old, already in poor condition, suffering from malnutrition and almost hypothermic. Her blood sugar levels were so erratic, she kept ‘crashing’ and eventually became comatose. Fearing the worst, Gail Martin made the decision to take her out of the Centre to provide 24 hour, one on one care in the quiet of her own home. It was touch and go! After 48 hours of round the clock care and monitoring, Gail needed sleep. She tucked Hoover into a heated incubator, murmured a quick prayer and lay down for a while. When she awoke suddenly in the wee small hours, she hurried over to the incubator expecting to find a dead bobcat on her hands. Instead, two bright, inquisitive eyes stared back at her. Hoover was on the mend. As her appetite returned, she began to fill out, vacuuming up everything put before her hence her name! In the hope that she could eventually be released, she remained at Gail’s home isolated from further human contact. . https://www.crittercarewildlife.org/ . #wildlife #bobcat #animal #charity #Vancover #throwbackthursday See more

Spaces available from now and through next baby season. Due to the circumstances around COVID-19 we have had to cancel internship from abroad. Due to difficulty of interns coming from aboard. So if you want to chance to hand raise orphaned baby animals and release them back into the wild, than apply! We are a non-profit charity who rehabilitates injured and orphaned native wild mammal species. We have been operating since 1984 and have steadily grown year after year with the... number of animals we have admitted. We are the only wild mammal rehab center in southern B.C, This year we will have admitted over 2000 animals. The species we admit range from Black Bears / River Otters / Raccoons / Skunks / Squirrels / Beavers / Fawns and many more. Critter Care is a charity and is not government funded and we solely operate off the generosity of our volunteers and sponsors. We have an intern program where people travel from around the world to get hands on experience, an interns stay typically ranges from 8 weeks to 4 months. Spring is our busiest time of year, in baby season we will have up to 25 interns to care for hundreds of baby animals. During an intern's stay they will live on site, they are provided free lodging and food as they typically raise the animals from a few weeks old and require feeding around the clock. Interns are expected to care for their animals and keep up with other duties as requested such as cleaning / food prep / medicate their animals under supervision. Interns are required to go on various rescues and sometimes they have the option to go on a release and watch their grown babies get introduced into the wild. From our experience interns gain valuable experiences working with our wildlife which sets them up for success in almost any industry they wish to pursue. Since interns come from all over the world they build long lasting relationships with their peers. Critter Care has become a much needed public service to the community, we slowly developed an education program for youth to teach them the fundamentals of our wild native mammal species and how we are able to coexist with wildlife. Young people love this program as they get to see a wild animal up close and learn basics skills not taught in schools.
