Welcome to week 7 of God’s Pocket Virtual Dive Tour! Because not everyone can come visit us at this time we are bringing some of our dives to you in the comfort of your own home This week we visit Lucan Chute!... This dive site is usually done as a drift dive. There are many small bays where you can tuck in out of the current and discover some pretty cool marine life. In the shallows you can find huge abalone munching away just meters below the tree line. Lots of sea stars too! Rolling over the rocks are many species of crab. Like Puget Sound Kingcrabs, both big and small There are beautiful plumose and fish eating anemones on the coraline algae covered rocks. And orange sea pens in the middle of the channel on the soft sediment. Keep your eyes peeled for well camouflaged red Irish Lords amongst the white and orange plumose anemones. There are even a few young wolf eels that are commonly spotted here. What are some of your favourite memories from diving in Lucan Chute? Tag us in your posts to be featured! by: @tiarebuoys #virtualdivetour #godspocketdiving #lucanchute
Happy Easter from God’s Pocket! #godspocketresort #offthegrid #happyeaster
Welcome to week 6 of God’s Pocket Virtual Dive Tour! This week we visit: Aquarium (aka Landslide) Aquarium is a gorgeous wall dive in Browning Passage.... On this dive site there is a short wall of colourful life, sort of a mini Browning Wall, with soft red coral, yellow sulphur sponges, purple coraline algae and lots of encrusting life. Then, as you swim along you will encounter a wall of pure white short plumose anemones (Metridium senile). Swim a little further and you will come to some old landslide sites with piles of large and small boulders. This creates the perfect habitat for many rockfish species such as copper, quill back and china rockfish. These boulders also are home to giant plumose anemones (Metridium farcimen) and fish eating anemones (Urticina piscavora). These cold water giants are a photographers dream! Especially on a sunny day with the sunbeams streaming through the forests above! Keep a sharp eye out because wolf eels and octopus also make these boulder piles home! What is your favourite memory from diving at Aquarium? Share your photos and tag us to be featured on our IG! by: @tiarebuoys #godspocketdiving #virtualdivetour #Aquarium
Welcome to week 5 of God’s Pocket Virtual Dive Tour! Because you can’t all join us right now, we are putting together a tour each week to take you virtually to some of our favourite dive sites. This week we visit Fantasy Island.... Fantasy Island is a site surrounded by beautiful kelp forests. Rockfish hangout in the kelp and kelp greenlings dart among the holdfasts. But the most special part of this dive lies below the kelp line. It is home to an impressive number of Wolfeels! There are Wolfeels of all ages and genders here. Statler and his mate are under a large boulder with orange plumose anemones. Steve, a relatively new and young Wolfeel has made a pile of boulders his home. It is also not uncommon to see Giant Pacific Octopus here! This is a stunning dive site with lots of life and colour. We hope you can visit it in person one day soon! by: @tiarebuoys #Godspocketdiving #Coldwaterdiving #GoNorthIsland #Explorebc
Wishing everyone a cozy holiday season!
May your solstice be filled with candlelight and warmth
Coastal Wolf in the intertidal zone on Hurst Island. When people think of marine mammals, they think of animals with fins, but it may be argued that BC’s coastal wolves could also be described as a marine mammal. Our coastal wolves rely on the ocean for up to 85% of their food (according to a study by Stronen et.al. 2014) and it is common to see individuals foraging on the beaches as we steam to and from our dive sites. Sometimes we even see them swimming between islands! An...ytime we are lucky enough to glimpse a coastal wolf we feel incredibly grateful. Up here at God’s Pocket we are lucky to share our environment with these incredible animals. This photo was taken by @tiarebuoys just around the corner from @gods_pocket_resort . Sharing space with wolves means respecting their habits and managing our food and waste so that they are not motivated to investigate any delicious smells. Have any of you been lucky enough to see a coastal wolf while visiting God’s Pocket? #coastalwolf #intertidalzone #marinemammal
To be underwater in a sea filled with emerald light is one of the best experiences in the world. All the noise of life quiets until all you can hear is the sound of your own breathing. There are no e-mails, text messages, phone call or tweets and for a moment one can be exactly present in that moment in time. Up here at God’s Pocket we make the most of these moments and try to be present in our beautiful surroundings everyday. #underwatermeditation #emeraldsea #breathe
God’s Pocket Lodge is not just an epic diving destination, we are also famous for the scenery seen from the surface of the water. Often humpbacks puff by us and pods of orcas swim through the pass, coastal wolves and sea otters are common to see in this area of the planet and lots and lots of marine birds who always mark the bait balls driven to the surface by some underwater marine species It’s always an exciting day up at the Pocket! #wildlife #marinemammals #humpbackwhale
Our temperate rainforests are mirrored underwater by great stands of towering kelp. These kelp forests provide important habitat for many juvenile marine species on our Pacific coast and are an essential part of a healthy marine ecosystem. On a sunny day the sunbeams stream through the kelp fronts and turn them a glittering gold. Sometimes, when the tides and currents are right, huge aggregations of jellyfish and comb jellies come together and add their silvery sparkles to t...he golden kelp forests as you can see in this photo. The Ocean is the heart and lungs of our blue planet. It is a source of infinite beauty and wonder as well as providing us with a source of renewable nutrition. Let's return the gifts we receive from our watery world by taking care of what we put into it and what we take out of it. #explorebc #sunshine #jellyfish #kelpforest
Remember to breathe. Breathe in patience, breathe out kindness. We are all here together by: @simoneychenne
God’s Pocket is home to many beings, Big Blue (aka Herbert or Henry) is one of the year round residents up here. His favourite perch is on the large logs at the end of the bay, positioned and anchored in place to create a breakwater. Underneath the substantial logs, a forest of seaweed, plumose anemones and feather duster worms proliferate. Many fish harbour in these tiny upside down forests and Big Blue get his breakfast lunch and dinner there. Patiently waiting until an uns...uspecting gunnel glides out of cover, then strikes with his sharp beak and long neck. @awildsuze took these fantastic photos and was kind enough to share them with us. Thanks Suze! If you would like to see your photos showcased on God’s Pocket Instagram please send us a DM we want to view God’s Pocket through your lens! #explorebc #bigblueheron
Happy Halloween! At God’s Pocket we don’t believe in monsters only organisms that have yet to be appreciated for their natural talents! Here are two of our favourite monsters a Giant Pacific Octopus and a wolfeel ... by: @tiarebuoys #allhallowseve #happyhalloween #monster
How many layers do you wear under your drysuit?? Our Canadian Pacific waters are filled with an abundance of colour and life but in order to visit this magical world, we need to dress appropriately! Diver and excellent human being @suzigramme gives us a glimpse of what it takes to get down to basics in her many layered, under-woollies! ... Thanks for sharing @stevestonian and @suzigramme ! #manylayers #warmandcozy #coldwaterdiving
God’s Pocket Is an excellent name for the bay we call home. Protected from the worst winds and surrounded by lush, green temperate rainforest, it is a little slice of heaven. Moon Jellies float into the bay and chimera come up here into the shallows. Herons fish off our breakwater and our resident crows keep everyone in line. We hope to share this beautiful little pocket of the world with you on your next trip with us by: @tiarebuoys ... #explorebc #gonorthisland
We said farewell to our latest group of guests today. We shared a week of excellent diving, delicious food and many stories together. Thank you for staying with us, keep healthy and we hope to see you again soon! #explorebc #coldwaterdiving
Last night we were woken up at 10:30 pm by the loud and trumpeting breaths of a humpback whale just outside God’s Pocket Bay. I came out of my room and stood in the moonlight listening to the large exhalations that sounded as if the whale was right inside the bay, when suddenly it was joined by the staccato breaths of a pod of Orcas. In the distance, coastal wolves took up a chorus and for a moment I stood there listening to a west coast symphony of wild animals. -DM @tiarebuoys #pnwonderland #explorebc
Steve the Wolfeel is a young male with something to prove to the older cooler males on our Fantasy Island dive site. Often seen showing off in front of the wolfeel ladies or just cruising the reef looking for a good time. His favourite movie is Point Break and Bohdi is his spiritual role model although he prefers Jonny Utah’s hair style. by: @tiarebuoys #vayacondios #definitely
Golden Hour (and happy hour) at the Pocket with a couple of our wonderful guests #goldenhour #explorebc
Beautiful day for diving! And a beautiful day to wave hello to our closest neighbour, lighthouse keeper Ivan #explorebc #neighbours
Charismatic megafauna? What about charismatic microfauna! This mosshead warbonnet is about the length of a pencil but has a sense of style many of us can only aspire to. by: @tiarebuoys #messyhairdontcare #warbonnet
Another beautiful sunset from the deck at God’s Pocket. After a few days of rain, the clouds cleared up this afternoon and we had a glorious evening. Our guests are now all settled into their rooms, dreaming of grunt sculpins, wolfeels and giant pacific octopus #explorebc #beautifulbritishcolumbia
What a wet and wonderful trip we just wrapped up! With double rainbows in Browning passage, gin clear visibility for diving and warm (but physically distanced) company, we can’t think of a better way to spend our days! Thank you to the fabulous group of guests, it was a pleasure to host you To our future guests, please download the Canada COVID Alert app to help with COVID tracing (even though it isn’t active yet in BC it will still help!). by: Suze Hall... #canadacovidalert #explorebc
When looking at our cold water reefs with our gorgeous soft corals, it can sometimes be a lot to take in. It is important to take a closer look and see what animals make the reef their home! In these photographs we have hermit crabs and decorator crabs tucked away in the soft corals. by: @tiarebuoys ... #coldwatercorals #explorebc
One of our guests celebrated her 500th dive with sealions in a kelp forest under sunny skies today at God’s Pocket! Congratulations Marie! Glad we could share this milestone with you! by Suze Hall
Which dive site do you like better Browning Wall or 7 Tree? Is it even possible to choose?! @maxwelhohn captured this excellent photo of the incredible life that is found on the underwater walls of Browning Passage #explorebc #beneathbc
With eyes like galaxies and colour combinations and patterns to blow your mind, you can see why Red Irish Lords are some of our favourite fish to photograph! They are also exceedingly patient with photographers by: @tiarebuoys #explorebc #redirishlord
The marine life up here in Browning Pass is so spectacular because massive water exchanges bringing nutrients for all the encrusting life to feast on. Often our waters are a deep emerald green and it feels as if you are diving in the land of Oz. by: @tiarebuoys #biodensity #biodiversity #emeraldseas
Not all the wildlife are below the waves up here at God’s Pocket. Our eagle neighbours keep a sharp eye out for seagulls encroaching on our cove and bait balls driven to the surface by marine mammals by: @tiarebuoys #eagleeye #baldeagle
Amphilectus digitatus or the finger sponge is a high current water species that lives up here in Browning Passage. @maxwelhohn captured this lovely photo on his recent trip to 7 Tree.
Our cabins are bright and cozy even on some of the wetter days up here at God’s Pocket by: @tiarebuoys

Candy striped shrimp are always a treat to see on a dive. If you look closely at crimson anemones, you are bound to see one or two! by: @tiarebuoys #candystripe #explorebc
We have Smokey skies above our dives these days and with all the previous sunshine our visibility has gone down a few feet but this means dazzling emerald sea backgrounds to our colourful wall dives. The weather forecast is Smokey skies, emerald waters and a chance of blizzards of juvenile rockfish! by: @tiarebuoys #emeraldseas #rockfish
