Try it. Let me know how it goes

I'm in bed by 10 pm so I'm usually awake before everyone else. This gives me some quiet time to plan my day and journal for 20 minutes or so. I’ve been writing love letters to my girls since the day they were born and this is the time of day I carve out just for this (maybe one day they will read them and not cringe?). I might try and squeeze in a 30-minute sweat on my stationary bike while blaring 90's pop in my headphones. By the time the kids wake up, I have endorphins flowing and can better handle the outfit changes/hair braiding/lunch packing/glove finding chaos. Can anyone relate?

I love comparing notes on people’s favourite podcasts because I always learn something new. Lately, I've been listening to Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert. The interview with Adam Grant on work life is one of my favourites. In a recent episode, he discusses his new book "Think Again - The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know." It focuses on the psychology of maximizing and satisficing a decision-making strategy that aims for a satisfactory result, rather than the optimal solution. Instead of putting maximum exertion toward attaining the ideal outcome, satisficing focuses on pragmatic effort when confronted with tasks. It was fascinating! Do you listen to podcasts? If you have any favourites I should know about, let me know below

Here’s what you might be feeling this week if you are on week 2 of your menstrual cycle. Week 2 ushers in your highest motivation, energy and libido. Your mood is elevated and your confidence surges thanks to dopamine and serotonin from peaking estrogen levels. You may talk fast, walk fast and generally feel rosier about life. I often urge my female patients to plan important meetings and heavy workloads for this time. Week 2 ends with estrogen dropping at ovulation (your fertile window), and a surge in testosterone which raises your sexual desire.

One of my mandates is educating patients about their body teaching them how to identify any shifts, monitoring for signs if something feels 'off'. Symptoms allow us to connect with our bodies' signals, so it's important that you trust your instincts and find a healthcare provider who will listen. Iron deficiency is so common, that I request a full iron panel on all my patients regardless of age or sex. Symptoms of low iron include fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, ligh...theadedness and anxiety. A complete iron panel looks at your hemoglobin level, ferritin (your iron stores), %sat and TIBC (total iron-binding capacity). This full panel offers clues into causes of iron deficiency or anemia such as colon cancer, celiac disease and uterine fibroids just to name a few. When was the last time you had a full iron panel done? If you're not sure, it's probably time to book an appointment.
