People always ask: Where are the falls? The dam at Carillon raised the water level but in the spring, when the water runs fast, we can see the changes in the river bottom by the rapids that appear under the bridge at this time of year.
"The most popular destinations were J. Henry Tweed CA in Russell with 43,000 visitors and W.E. Burton CA, also in Russell, with 37,000 visitors. They were followed by seasonal sites Jessup’s Falls CA in Plantagenet (26,000) and High Falls CA in Casselman (22,000)." SNC has received notice from Environment Ontario of a potential blue-green algae bloom at the Jessup's Falls Conservation Area in Canton d'Alfred et Plantagenet... / Township of Alfred and Plantagenet. Water samples have been taken by the Ministry for further analysis. Swimming is not permitted at this Conservation Area, and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit is advising not to go in the water if there is a layer of scum with a texture similar to that of paint. Residents should be cautious around what could be blue-green algae, as some varieties can produce toxins that are harmful to both humans and animals. Updates will be provided when available. More info on blue-green algae can be found here: https://bit.ly/3lMaIJt Think you've spotted blue-green algae? Pick up the phone and call the Ontario Spills Action Centre at 1-866-663-8477. Please note that this is a stock photo.
