Having a dirty + clogged filter causes poor air flow and can even cause damage to the HVAC unit. This should be done more than once per year, but here is your remin...der! Check smoke + C02 detectors: Replace batteries and test the devices. This should be done seasonally. Don't forget to have the conversation with your family about fire safety + what to do in such an emergency. Inspect outdoor AC unit: Visually inspect the outdoor unit to ensure it is on a level surface. If it is on concrete, make sure it is stable/not deteriorating. A level surface is needed for a unit to perform properly. Check the condenser for any damages and remove any leaves that may have fallen on the outdoor unit. Get ducts cleaned: If you have your ducts cleaned prior to turning on your AC, you won't have to worry about allergens, dust and debris circulating into your home further. This is recommended by professionals to be done ~ every 4-7 years. Schedule routine maintenance: An HVAC technician with years of experience can help to find potential issues and fix them prior to major costly breakdowns ! A professional may also be able to pin-point areas of your home where there is insufficient seals or leaky ductwork. Reverse ceiling fan direction: Clockwise motion in Winter.
