On behalf of our programming team, our staff and board of directors, we are extremely proud to announce that NOW Magazine readers have voted The Revue as the BEST INDEPENDENT FILM VENUE in the city for THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW! We would like to thank the voters and our awesome programming team and special guests (including Drunken Cinema, Throwback Cinema, Silent Revue, Designing the Movies, We Really Like Her, Dumpster Raccoon Cinema, Food in Film, Jazzcast.ca, Keeping Score..., Penguin Teen Screen, Anne T. Donahue and The Bloody Mary Film Festival) for providing much needed entertainment with their virtual events/screenings. It’s because of them that we can now provide our community the tasty popcorn they have been missing since we closed our doors earlier this year. Although it may be bittersweet to announce this amazing win with no big screen events to offer, we can not express our gratitude enough to the community for helping us get through these trying times. SOVEREIGN SOIL is an ode to the spirit and resilience of people who live off the land in a remote northern Canadian community and who have dedicated their lives to sustainably producing food for that community. Shot over four seasons, the film reveals a deep understanding of the wisdom, passion, hardship, joy, and spiritual bonds that come from being intimately, and inextricably, connected to your environment and the cycles of life and death. SOVEREIGN SOIL is a lyrical tone poem, made with the love, intimacy and insight that only someone who lives in this place can truly have.
