#OPTtuesday OPT Tuesdays will feature an artist who has been selected to participate in the Okanagan Print Triennial 2021 at the #VPAG Thank you to everyone who submitted to the exhibition and congratulations to the finalists who will be a part of the international exhibition. The OPT begins March 18th at the #VPAG.... This week our feature #artist is Monika Brzegowska from Poland. This screen print is titled Mirage 22. For those who do not know what screen printing is: Screen printing is a technique that involves using a woven mesh screen to support an ink-blocking stencil or drawing to receive a desired image. There are many more detailed steps involved, but that is the basic idea. To see more from Monika Brzegowska http://brzegowska.blogspot.com/ For anyone interested in coming to see the #OPT from outside of #Vernon, we have partnered with the Prestige Vernon Lodge and Conference Centre to offer anyone staying the night a discounted room rate! Contact us at [email protected] for more info. #OPTtuesdays #art #internationalexhibition #vernonpublicartgallery #printmaking #linocut #artistsofinstagram #vernonarts #publicart

We just wanted to take a minute to thank all of our amazing volunteers from this year! Volunteers are an integral part of what we do at the #vpag ! Even though COVID-19 has effected the way we operate and host events, without all of our hard working volunteers, fun community events like MEA and Art After Dark would not be possible! WE APPRECIATE YOU! #volunteers #publicart #thankyou #vernonpublicartgallery

#OPTtuesdays OPT Tuesdays will feature an artist who has been selected to participate in the Okanagan Print Triennial 2021 at the #VPAG Thank you to everyone who submitted to the #exhibition and congratulations to the finalists who will be a part of #OPT2021 This week our feature artist is Yangbin Park from South Korea. ... This piece is a Serigraph, which is also known as silk screening, or screen printing. This is a process by which ink is forced through a fine screen onto the paper beneath. This piece is from a series called Water, Wind and Wave, and speaks to ideas of identity and place. Happy printing everyone! The #VPAG is excited to be launching a new #educational program called Regional Reach! Regional Reach is a travelling art education kit that was developed by our Learning and Community Engagement Curator to meet the needs of our community in the outlying areas of Greater #Vernon. With high bus costs and other barriers we wanted all students to have access to creative possibilities within the #visual #arts! This year's kit will focus on five contemporary indigenous artists! T...he lesson plans also meet curriculum outcomes for #SocialStudies, #LanguageArts and #Science! Book your Regional Reach kit today through the Vernon Public Art Gallery! To learn more about Regional Reach follow the link to our website www.vernonpublicartgallery.com/regional-reach #teachers #arteducation #learning #arts #artiseverywhere

#didyouknow Did you know that the #vernonpublicartgallery is currently located under a parkade? Did you also know that in the snowy and rainy months the ceiling inside the gallery leaks? This exact issue was happening today at the #VPAG ... Being able to properly store #artwork is one of the galleries basic responsibilities. Because of the risk of water damage, here at the VPAG we have to wrap all the #art in the permanent collection in plastic. We are unable to guarantee protection of specific works due to not only the water damage risk, but the lack of space we currently have. This problem creates limitations as far as the #exhibitions we can house, therefore limiting the #artistic and #cultural experiences we would like to provide for our #community! The new Cultural Centre will be able to provide the space and controlled environment (temperature and humidity) needed in order to safely store and exhibit art. That's one of the reasons we are so excited about the #CulturalCentre Because visual culture should be accessible to all. If you would like to be involved with this exciting project, contact the VPAG at [email protected]
