Before we apply shingles to a roof, we always install underlayment, a water-resistant product that provides an extra layer of protection. Shingles are a great first line of defense against the elementsthey reflect the sun, withstand wind, and block precipitation. But, because shingles overlap, extreme wind can sometimes cause them to lift. When this happens, it’s possible that wind-driven rain can infiltrate, which can lead to leaks if underlayment isn’t present. When we respond to roof repair requests regarding leaks, the lack of underlayment is often the cause.

A beautiful new roof we recently completed with Lomanco P60 PRO roof vents. Why is proper ventilation important? Here's a great answer from Lomanco: "Proper ventilation is required to protect your home. Heat in unventilated attics may cause temperatures to exceed 150 degreescausing damage to shingles and roof sheathing, and possibly radiating to the living area. Moisture, the #1 enemy, causes rot, mildew, mold, paint blisters, and renders insulation to be ineffective. Proper ventilation reduces energy bills, winter ice build up, and eliminates mold/mildew, which can lead to major health problems."
