"I create art because it’s a way for me to connect with my culture. My inspiration comes from my late grandfather, Victor Mowatt. I use Northwest Coast form line in every work I accomplish. My goal as an artist is to create unique First Nations art. My work signifies the past, present and future." - Michelle Stoney This incredible work was created by Indigenous Artist Michelle Stoney, @mstoneyart from British Columbia and donated to our Free Colouring Book project at the beg...inning of the pandemic in March 2020. It been a favourite among community members, tagging us in their colourful works. We encourage you to support these artists during these challenging times. Even with a tag and follow and some friendly words of how their art has impacted you. Our goal with the colouring book was to bring a community at home together, and give us all a creative outlet through these stunning designs. Nya:weh/Thank you to all the artists that made this possible. Type: "Link" in a comment for the download link to the PDF colouring book. Show us your art work by tagging us in your masterpieces!

This is a photograph of the upper floor of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. Before the #SavetheEvidence campaign started this massive renovation project, many parts of the building were damaged, crumbling and in a state of disrepair. As we approach the finish line of construction, we want to thank everyone that helped us get this far. Every donation, every virtual tour, every brick saved... has made a difference and we are so close! ... Join us Jan 20th at 7pm to get a walk through this historical space and hear the stories from Survivors themselves about what life was like at the Mush Hole. Don't miss our next Save the Evidence E-Newsletter in February. Subscribe your email to make sure you stay plugged into the updates http://wcc.subscribemenow.com

Today's Indigenous Word of the Day is in both Mohawk and Cayuga. "I'm happy." Mohawk - wakatshennón:ni... Cayuga - agatsno:ni: Do you know how to say it in any other languages? This photograph was taken during our Onkwehonwe Festival in 2019 by photographer Ian R. Maracle. Dancing is one thing that always brings joy and happiness. What makes you happy?

Even though our Museum is closed for Remembrance Day, we wanted to bring you inside to a display you may not have seen recently. These Indigenous soldiers left their marks in the tunnels of Vimy Ridge. Read the story of Jacob Silversmith, a student at the Mohawk Institute Residential School here on our website: https://woodlandculturalcentre.ca/the-mohawk-insti-vimy-ri/... Book your self guided tour on our website and read the other stories within this display. We acknowledge those that fought for all of us on this day of remembrance and the many Indigenous soldiers who not only volunteered, but were vital in many battles. Do you have a story to share too? Lest we not forget.
