Great news! Adhering to the newest lockdown restrictions, construction is still underway for our new Dementia Care Centre. We are on track and working away to open up in the Fall! Any guesses as to what this spot will be once completed? Disclaimer: This photo was taken before the recent lockdown orders were put in place.
I think we can all agree that music is an integral part of our lives. For those living with dementia, music can provide emotional and behavioural benefits! The areas of the brain that are linked to musical memory are often left relatively untouched by Alzheimer’s. This allows our musical memories to stay intact. That’s why we offer music programs into our Adult Day Programs. Music Care has a positive impact on how you feel physically and emotionally, it encourages social in...teraction, spiritual reflection and supports memories and reminiscence. Although we can't do this currently, we can't wait till we get to be back at our club and share in the joys of music once again. For more information on our Adult Day Programs visit us at https://acclaimhealth.ca/adult-day-program/ #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth #AlzheimersAwareness #DementiaAwareness #AcclaimHealth #Alzheimers #Dementia #Caregivers #DementiaCare #nonprofit #AlzheimersCare #AcclaimHealthStories #MusicCare #MusicTherapy Disclaimer: These photos were capture during our programming before COVID-19. As a precaution, all 5 of our adult day programs will be closed until further notice. You can continue to use our virtual programming while we are closed.

Our friends from Lions Club of Oakville are amazing! Thanks for donating $1,000 for activity care packages for our isolated clients who are staying safe at home. These packages give our clients something fun to stay busy and let them know someone is thinking of them.
Did you know January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month? Over the next few weeks we are going to share some amazing stories from people living with dementia, their families and caretakers. In doing so we hope to raise awareness of dementia and all the programs we offer to support those living with it in our community. Today’s story is from Peter and Anne... ... One day, Anne received a phone call from her husband Peter. He was supposed to be on his way home from his German choir practice in Toronto, instead he was at his local church parking lot. He couldn’t figure out how to get home. Little things I had been noticing just kind of all came together said Anne It was a sickening feeling. I realized Peter had dementia Acclaim Health set Peter up with a volunteer from our Memory Visiting program, Ken. Peter and Ken enjoyed weekly visits where they would go for a walk at the Royal Botanical Gardens or Paletta Mansion and always finish with lunch at their favourite spot, Wendy’s. Peter also attends Acclaim Health’s Adult Day Program or the club as our members call it. When he comes home from the club Peter is flying high. As a very social person, Peter loves being there with all his friends. They do things like sing his favourite songs and play games together. All while Anne receives a bit of time for herself to run errands or simply enjoy a moment’s peace. Thank you so much to Atlas Van Lines Canada for continuing to show generosity to our clients again this holiday season! We are so grateful for the donated gifts that we will be able to share with older adults feeling isolated, especially during these times. A seemingly small gesture that means the world to someone! Thank you!
Our clients are loving the new virtual version of our 'Art in the House' program! We drop off art supplies at their houses and create masterpieces together over Zoom. "My mom is so grateful for this wonderful program. She is truly enjoying each session and the variety of artwork that is taught every week. As a senior with limited mobility, it is truly a blessing that she can participate in these Zoom sessions."

Today is Children's Grief Awareness Day. When someone you know has experienced a death, it's important to be there for them, even if they don't feel like talking. One idea we have is to craft a memory box for them to keep their photos and cherished memories in
