"Caught February 24th, 2020 in the Vedder River, Chilliwack, British Columbia...Wild fish was released with no harm done. The estimated weight was 20 lbs. I had just walked to the run from being elsewhere on the river. The first cast produced this fine specimen of a Wild Winter Steelhead," Dave S. from Surrey, our Photo Contest winner, said about his "Best Catch of 2020"! Congratulations! Submit your photo for our next theme "Fishing Secrets of the Sea" running from Jan. 8th-20th for a chance to win a unique #BCWF prize pack and a special surprise in our Photo Contest for our 65+ community in B.C.!

"The B.C. Wildlife Federation supports science-based efforts to keep B.C.'s wildlife wild and out of conflict with humans. In this case, the Freedom of Information reveals the Government of B.C. failed to consult grizzly bear scientists and ignored advice from the Conservation Officer Service. While the story attracted significant media attention, the Freedom of Information also shows the reporting was not consistent with the truth. Furthermore, the province should be investing in WildSafeBC's Bear Aware program to prevent human-bear conflicts. Operating in isolation of science has a cost. Fortunately, no one was hurt." Jesse Zeman, Director of Fish and Wildlife Restoration Program at #BCWF, said. Read more in The Vancouver Sun:

The B.C. Wildlife Federation applauds the efforts of Rick McGowan and the Nicola Valley Fish & Game Club to deal with this long-standing issue. Successive governments have intentionally turned a blind eye to public access. The B.C. Wildlife Federation raises the issue of public access to public resources every time it meets with elected officials and has worked with organizations such as the UVIC Environmental Law Clinic to identify threats and solutions to public access in... British Columbia. The BC Wildlife Federation is also currently working with legal counsel on matters related to public access to BC Parks, fish and wildlife in British Columbia. To help support public access to public resources, British Columbians can do two things: First, write or meet with your MLA and tell them how important public access to public resources such as Crown land, BC Parks, fish and wildlife are. Secondly, report any time you are or think you may be illegally denied access to public land. to the RAPP line 1 877 952-7277 (RAPP) or #7277 https://bit.ly/3pZWTt2
