In November of 1899, the American schooner the Hera departed Seattle bound for Honolulu with a cargo which included 11 grand pianos, a roof of a church, 1800 ba...rrels of building lime, and 60 000 bottles of Rainier beer. During its voyage it was blown up the coast to Vancouver island in a terrific storm and its cargo of line caught fire in the hold. As the ship arrived in Clayoquot sound, the crew began to abandon ship and were saved by the lifeboat from the Clayoquot settlement as the ship exploded into flames. The ship spent the next 75 years under water, until it was rediscovered by local diver Rod Palm, who was able to recover many intact bottles of beer with their contents still inside!
